Competitive Division.
Designed for players, who are playing high level, organized volleyball such as that observed at tournaments. This Division allows players to form teams with which to play on a recurring weekly basis.
At no time will team formation be required of an individual in order to play in the Competitive Division.
- The first four weeks of indoor play in the Competitive Division will consist of pick-up play up to and including the two week rating period.
- The following weeks of indoor play (until the December holidays) will consist of the following:
- Team rosters must be submitted to the Competitive Division Board Members before the fifth week of play in the indoor season. Team rosters shall consist of no more than seven players. Team rosters cannot be changed on a week-by-week basis. Rosters are in effect from the fifth week until the four-week pick-up play immediately following the December holidays. Only then can the roster be changed for the second half of the indoor season.
- If a team experiences extenuating circumstances, to be reviewed and approved by the Competitive Board prior to being accepted, an ‘exceptional roster change’ may be granted.
- At least four members of each team must be present for the team to play as a team each week. If four members are not present, all present members will be treated as “free agents” (see below).
- If a team has ≥ 4 members but < 6 members, the Competitive Board Member will construct the remaining positions needed for said team from the “free agent” pool.
- A registered team may elect to NOT play as a team on certain weeks, for whatever reason they may provide, making all players on that team free agents for that week.
- Players that do not elect to play on a set team from week to week will retain their “free agent” status. Such players will sign in each week for the position they wish to play and teams will be constructed by the Competitive Board Member of such players.
- The first four weeks of indoor play in the advanced division after the December holidays would consist of pick-up play up to and including the second two-week rating period in January.
- The following weeks of indoor play (until the end of the indoor season) would consist of the same team formation as described above with rosters due by the fifth week of indoor play after the December holidays.
- Exceptions to team play:
- The following denote exceptions to team play in the Competitive Division:
- CBVA Mini-tournaments
- Other circumstances warranting dissolution of team play for a specific week as deemed by the Competitive Board Members.
- Two week tournament rule:
- The two-week tournament rule for teams playing in NAGVA sanctioned tournaments would still apply in the team play environment. Players who are “free agents” but who have formed a team going to a tournament may play together as a team for those two weeks.
- If a player on a CBVA team is on a different team going to a NAGVA tournament, it is the decision of the Competitive Board Member to allow said player to play on his/her NAGVA tournament team two weeks before said tournament.
